Testing of the New App GoCC4All among the community with sensory disabilities
Through the years, we have provided access to audiovisual media for people with sensory disabilities. We have worked closely with adults and children with sensory disabilities, as well as with educators, researchers, parents and service providers who have inspired us to find solutions for their needs.
Our new app GoCC4All, by Dicapta Foundation, responds to the individual needs of the deaf-blind community by allowing them to have access to television. Knowledge and findings from SoftLab at the University Carlos III in Madrid during the project PersasiveSub funded by Telefonica and their Innovation Department, in a unique effort to support the deaf-blind community, have been fundamental for this development. GoCC4All promises to include the deaf-blind community in the day to day of news, and entertainment offered by television.
Continuing with our evaluation and iterative process, a group of users with sensory disabilities have been selected across the country to have access to the 3rd Presidential debate next October the 19th. Dicapta Foundation will deliver English and Spanish real time TV caption streams. Users will receive an alert on their smartphones (iOS or Android) five minutes before the scheduled time for the debate:
Be prepared on your Braille display, or your Smartphone, the 3rd presidential debate is going to start in five minutes.
For the deaf-blind testers:
Pairing compatibility with different Braille displays, as well as pace control for the caption streams is offered.
For the deaf and hard of hearing community:
GoCC4All also allows users to read real time captions on their Smartphones customizing speed and size. We selected a group of our friends who are deaf or hard of hearing to give us their feedback on the benefits, if any, this technology offers to the deaf and hard of hearing community.
For the blind community:
We invited testers from the blind community to choose among the voice over or Braille display capabilities to follow captions.
Having access to the next presidential debate will help us all, now included, to decide our vote.
We thank our friends in the community with sensory disabilities for their help in improving this product that will be available soon.
We look forward to hearing comments from our testers about GoCC4All app, this time having live access to this political event.
